So what is over marketing?
Over Marketing is when you cross the thin line between promoting and pretending… when you go from authority, to the next bla blaing guy on the internet, when you forget you do the things you do to help people and not only to make money.
The Marketing process goes like this:
1 You think about online money as something magical… working from home or at the beach and making all those money typing some letters on the keyboard, it just feels right.
2 You jump online and start looking for ways to make money…
3 You find something that you believe will make you a millionaire, or you just want to replace your monthly job income.
4 You try and try and try… then you find out you need marketing skills, let me correct myself – you need good marketing skills to start making money
5 You start learning marketing and how to do it.
6 You don’t believe in investing, since this is the internet and it’s a place where you make money without giving any (this is what everybody thinks )
7 Then you see you need to invest to make money.
8 At some point you start learning SEO… some do it in the beginning, some a bit later, but everybody does.
9 If you don’t quit, you start generating traffic and money… how much depends on mostly what you sell.
10 You make money.
So far so good… you are golden, after you start making money if you follow all the Wealth Creation Steps you saw on our blog you will become rich.
If this is the process you go through – perfect… however some people choose another path – Over Marketing. And the sad thing is they don’t even know they do.
The over marketing process goes like this:
1 You are all over the social networks constantly talking about how much money you make, posting money snapshots, or shooting 40 minutes videos talking about nothing, or telling story after story after story and never actually getting to the point.
2 Once you see you make money out of anything, you push for more and more and more… until it is dead. Not that wanting more is bad, it is good, but when you want more you need to give more.
3 You start pretending to know stuff only to make a buck or so…
4 You don’t care about customers’ feedback… you believe very badly you can’t make money without making a few enemies and since this is quite true, you believe everybody who thinks bad about your product is a dork… besides you know how to promote, you will find somebody else to buy.
5 You become all about over marketing… which means – you know all types of getting backlinks, you know all about all kinds of marketing, but know close to nothing about creating a product, or a service that will be good enough, to not need that much marketing.
Marketing is vital for business, and if you are skillful you will literary be able to make money out of everything, but over marketing will make you silly.
Over marketing will turn you into one of those stall fruit sellers, who chase people on the street, to tell them how incredibly awesome the oranges at their stall are… only in this case, you will be online chasing people to sell them something else.
So you have to be very careful with over marketing, because people who only care about marketing and never finish the other Wealth Creation steps, actually turn into some wanna be marketing actors… you see them everywhere – You Tube , Facebook, Google and the minute you see them, you know they are just trying to get you to buy something without caring what it is that much.
I have seen so many people do this mistake, a lot of them making pretty decent money too. It is awesome to make a lot of money online, but when you constantly show people money snapshots, and always talk about getting rich, but never actually tell the truth, which is getting rich is not easy, you become an over marketing artist.
Be careful with over marketing, use promotion as a tool to grow your business, and not for the sole reason to get somebody to buy from you, no matter what it is – this will not work for you in the long-term.
